- The Hudson Valley Jazz Festival begins its fifth season August 14-17. The series which takes place in several towns in the greater Hudson Valley features the deep resource of local talent along side grammy winning and nationally recognized jazz names.
This year's feature show, is The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra of NYC's famed Village Vanguard. This 17 piece jazz ensemble, formerly The Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra has been a fixture on Monday nights for decades at this landmark jazz club. This year, The Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center , a leading performance space in the valley will present them on Saturday Aug. 16 at 8 PM. Another highlight will be "Women in Jazz of The Hudson Valley"on Sunday Aug 17.
The Falcon in Marlboro presents Adam Nussbaum and Steve Swallow, The BeanRunner in Peekskill , Shunzo Ohno, and sponsoring venues in Warwick will present shows. ( See complete schedule at www.hudsonvalleyjazzfest.org).
Different environments and music styles from big bands to trios, quartets, traditional, modern, world music and fusion taking place in cafes, theaters, restaurants, parks, a village green, a community center ,a tattoo parlor and billiard hall.
Many of the shows are free, and the others very modestly priced.
