Hudson Valley chefs recently celebrated the kickoff for Hudson Valley Restaurant Week 2010 at Harvest-on-Hudson in Hastings. The two-week event runs from March 15-28, offering fixed priced dining at more than 130 restaurants in seven counties.Hastings-On-Hudson, N.Y. - Undaunted by the wintry weather, over 250 chefs, food purveyors and tourism industry professionals from around the Hudson Valley gathered at Harvest-on-Hudson to kick-off the fourth Hudson Valley Restaurant Week which is planned for March 15-28. Richard Thomas, Lower Hudson Valley Regional Director for New York State Governor David Paterson extended greetings from the Governor by saying, "Hudson Valley Restaurant Week is a proud accomplishment, a continuation of a great cultural tradition of food and wine here in the Valley." Mary Kay Vrba, president of Hudson Valley Tourism, Inc., said, "All of you are part of the tourism industry. Culinary arts, agriculture, historic sites and our scenic outdoors, all help to create a brand for the Hudson Valley as a world-class destination." Peter Kelly, owner of Xaviars Restaurant Group and Restaurant Week Board Member, got a laugh when he said, "There haven't been this many chefs so excited since the Iron Chef competition at the White House!" He went on to say that "the Hudson Valley has arrived as a true dining destination. Our restaurants have created a rich culinary landscape and are being recognized for making creative use of products from the region's farms, dairies and wineries." Janet Crawshaw, publisher of The Valley Table magazine and originator of Hudson Valley Restaurant Week, remarked on the growth of the event, now in its fourth year. "We hoped for 100 restaurants participating in 2010 and have far exceeded that goal by reaching 133 as of today. People dining out during Hudson Valley Restaurant Week will have lots of wonderful choices to make. " From March 15-28, over 130 restaurants in seven counties will offer special three-course prix fixe lunch for $20 and dinner for $28.
