iloveny-stack2.jpgtwitter_logo.pngNew York State Leads the State Tourism Category on Twitter in U.S. and Canada New York, N.Y. - New York State's @I_LOVE_NY Twitter handle is the first state tourism account in the U.S. and Canada to reach 20,000 followers, placing the Empire State number one on the list of state tourism Twitter accounts, according to the blog, which lists rankings rated by  I LOVE NEW YORK, the State's tourism promotion agency, utilizes a series of social media strategies, including multiple daily tweets on topics ranging from insider scoops, upcoming events, little known facts, famous dates in New York history, and more, to increase its Twitter following.  The handle also provides state-wide initiative information such as the new Green Heart NY Tourism program featuring the inaugural "Greenest New Yorker" contest, along with promotions like the Empire State's "Deal of the Day."   "We provide our Twitter followers with trendy and appealing topics to engage their interest in New York and excite them to travel throughout our 11 vacation regions," said Edward Maitino, Managing Director of Marketing, Advertising and Tourism for Empire State Development.  "The results have been spectacular: not only are we the number one state tourism site in the country, but our Twitter handle continues to grow by approximately 500 new followers per week."
