Ellicottville, N.Y. - A happy crowd of over 200 skiers and snowboarders cheered as the red ribbon was cut and the new Morning Star Express high speed quad chairlift officially opened on December 11, 2010 at 10:00AM. The $3.5 million chairlift is Holiday Valley's third high speed detachable lift and was constructed over the summer by the resort's Mountain Crew. The lift is 2,580 feet in length and has a capacity of 2400 skiers per hour with a ride time of 2.5 minutes. Holiday Valley's President and General Manager, Dennis Eshbaugh, remarked, "We are especially proud that our own crew constructed this lift. We are one of only a few ski areas in the country to build our own lifts. This makes our crew familiar with every aspect of the lift, able maintain it properly and make repairs efficiently." The 2010-2011 winter season is off to a great start with over 55 inches of natural snow and plenty of cold weather for snowmaking. The season opened on Tuesday, December 7 and the resort plans to operate through April 10, 2011. Holiday Valley, in Western New York State is a leading eastern North American winter resort.
