hammondsport-coolest.JPGHammondsport, N.Y. - The Hammondsport Coolest Small Town Celebration will be held on Saturday, June 30, in the Village Square of Hammondsport. Festivities will begin at 12 p.m., culminating with a fireworks display at dusk. The day will center around all the things that give Hammondsport its distinct cool factor, which helped it win the "America's Coolest Small Town" contest through Budget Travel magazine earlier this year. The celebration will begin at noon with a special welcome from Hammondsport Mayor, Emery Cummings, and an introduction from Brett Steeves, President of the Hammondsport Chamber of Commerce. New York State Senator, Tom O'Mara will issue a state proclamation for Hammondsport as the Coolest Small Town. Assemblyman Phil Palmesano will also offer his congratulations to the tiny town that has earned this big title. "When the voting was taking place it wasn't confined to just residents and businesses in Hammondsport," said Steeves. "In fact, boundaries usually marked by townships and county lines, even state lines, all but disappeared. In recognition of that fact, Hammondsport is hosting this event as a way to reach out to the surrounding region and show our appreciation." The Taste of the Coolest Small Town: Finger Lakes Wine and Beer Tasting event will be held from 1 - 3 p.m. Admission to the event will be restricted to those 21 and over, with the purchase of a wristband. Complimentary commemorative wine and beer glasses will be included in the admission fee. Other festivities will include children's activities from Soulshine Bead Studio in Corning, race simulators from Watkins Glen International, and alpacas from Autumn Mist Alpacas. Stop by Depot Park at the lakefront to view a seaplane and learn about its historical connection to Hammondsport. Throughout the afternoon, enjoy live music in the square from Bruce Holler, the John Bolger Band, a blues band from Rochester, and GENO & Friends, a local band featuring Rob Kurcoba, the designer of the official Hammondsport Coolest Small Town logo. While enjoying the celebration, make sure to stop by the Hammondsport Visitor Center and get your logo gear! Show your pride by purchasing a T-shirt, coffee mug, tote bag, bumper sticker, and more! The annual Fireman's Parade kicks off at 6 p.m., with an extra special cool factor this year. The parade will begin with a seaplane flyover, honoring Hammondsport's deep aviation roots. Also spot the Coolest Car from the Coolest Road Trip in the parade. Celebration goers are encouraged to stay and enjoy the Fireman's Carnival in Hammondsport thereafter. The evening will conclude with a special fireworks presentation at dusk. "We are excited to celebrate Hammondsport's victory in this very special way," said Peggy Coleman, President of the Steuben County Conference & Visitors Bureau. "This title brings huge recognition to our area. It has put Hammondsport in a very public spotlight this year, and we're happy to be able to celebrate this accomplishment with the people who made it all possible." As the official tourism marketing agency for the county, The Steuben County Conference & Visitors Bureau is excited by the prospect of additional tourism this designation brings to Hammondsport and surrounding communities. "The passion of voters, combined with the extra media attention, and the ultimate victory - not to mention the Budget Travel article that will release later this year - have certainly made 2012 a banner year for Hammondsport," said Coleman. "This new title will only help more people discover what we already knew all along - that Hammondsport really is the Coolest Small Town in America."
