ORDA logoWeekend Races to Draw 400 Athletes to Mt. Van Hoevenberg

Lake Placid, N.Y. – The Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) is thrilled to host the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) Super Tour/New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) Eastern Cup at Mt. Van Hoevenberg this Saturday & Sunday, January 29th & 30th. The Super Tour will gather approximately 400 of the nation’s top cross-country ski athletes to race on the new competition trails each day, and it will be the largest event staged at the facility since its recent modernizations. This Super Tour also serves as a test event for the FISU World University Games, which will take place January 12-22, 2023.

“This is a great opportunity to introduce athletes to our new world-class trail system and stadium layout,” said Kris Cheney-Seymour, Nordic Program Manager at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. “These trails will challenge the athletes, even those with an international level experience.” Mt. Van Hoevenberg’s upgrades include the world’s largest snowmaking system dedicated to Nordic, 5km of new World Championship-rated cross-country trails, spectator bridge, a new 30-point biathlon range, the new Mountain Pass Lodge, and paved loops for year-round training.

“ORDA is honored to welcome the Super Tour back to Lake Placid,” commented Mike Pratt, ORDA President & CEO.  “Mt. Van Hoevenberg was designed to host cross-country events and training for every level of athlete, at the same time keeping trails accessible to recreational skiers. Events like the Super Tour are vital to our mission and a terrific way for everyone to be part of the excitement of cross-country racing.”

The prestigious Super Tour/NENSA Eastern Cup features an elite class of development skiers from across the United States, as well as the top junior athletes from New England and the Mid-Atlantic region. The events are used by USSA for National Team consideration. For the junior athletes, these races determine membership on New England and Mid-Atlantic Junior National Teams scheduled to compete this spring at Junior Nationals in Minneapolis.

Saturday’s event is a classic sprint, while Sunday will feature a 5km/10km mass start freestyle race. For more information, visit www.MtVanHoevenberg.com.
