Canandaigua, N.Y. - Here's a great opportunity in the Finger Lakes to be part of National Tourism Week and make a difference in your community! WHAT: Do you want to help make your community sparkle for the spring and summer visitors? The Finger Lakes Visitors Connection invites volunteers to join the community cleanup efforts during National Tourism Week (May 5-13, 2012). WHERE: The Finger Lakes Visitors Connection and the Ontario County tourism industry will be out and about May 7-9, working on a variety of cleanup projects with different organizations. On May 7, there will be two cleanup projects. One will be at Sonnenberg Gardens as the community will be helping plant gardens and work in the greenhouses. Another will be with the Downtown Canandaigua Merchants Association as they plant flowers along Main Street and clean up the downtown area. May 8 will be a cleanup in Geneva focusing on the Geneva Lakefront area. On May 9, Valentown Museum in Victor needs help cleaning and getting ready for visitors. WHEN: Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park - May 7th, 9 am to noon Downtown Canandaigua cleanup - May 7th, 1 pm to 4 pm Geneva Lakefront cleanup - May 8th, 9 am to noon Valentown Museum cleanup - May 9th, 1 pm to 4 pm WHO: The Finger Lakes Visitors Connection in conjunction with Sonnenberg Gardens, the Downtown Canandaigua Merchants Association, the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce, Valentown Museum, the Victor Chamber of Commerce, the Geneva Business Improvement District and the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. WHY: Every year, the U.S. Travel Association works to promote the value of tourism during National Tourism Week and encourages local community members to help in the cause. This year, the Ontario County tourism industry is banding together to help get the area ready for the spring and summer seasons.
