ROC‘n RUN Virtual Race to Benefit Out of Work Musicians
Rochester, N.Y. – June 4, 2020 – In the absence of the popular annual Rochester Lilac 5K/10K runs this year, festival producers have come up with a unique, musically-themed idea to stay in shape, get some exercise, have fun and raise money for musicians and members of the entertainment industry who are out of work due to the Covid-19 shutdown.
Rochester Events will produce its first-ever virtual run, which also benefits MusiCares®. MusiCares® is a non-profit organization formed by the Recording Academy® which is best known for producing the GRAMMY Awards. MusiCares® provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need.
ROC‘n RUN, a three-day event, will take place June 26, 27 & 28 and will consist of a Summer Madness 5K, Lovin’ Summer 10K and Cruel, Cruel Summer Half-Marathon, as well as a Schools Out for Summer 2-Miler for those under 14.
“This pandemic has affected everyone, from every background. We’ve seen people connect, stay positive and heal through the power of music,” said owner of Rochester Events Jeff Springut. “Although we’ve probably lost the Festival season, we're giving not only our local community but anyone in the world a chance to tie up the laces and turn up the tunes! The virtual run and walk has a distance for everyone- and can be run anywhere- whether you are an athlete, music fan, or both!”
Registration for the ROC’n RUN opened on Wednesday, June 3rd and can be found at www.rochesterevents.com.
Registration and Finisher Perks
Registered Runners have access to a curated playlist and a Print-At-Home Bib.
Participants may complete their distance all at once or over the course of the three days to receive their Perks, which consists of a custom printed ROC’n RUN t-shirt, buff that can be worn a variety of ways (even as a face mask) and a premium finisher’s medal!
Participants may partake anywhere in the world and will report their time on-line when finished.
Social Media Contest
To add some social fun to the mix, participants are encouraged to put on their favorite band T-shirt and take photos of music-related landmarks such as a music venue, piece of artwork or even a performance while completing their route. Participants who use the hashtag #ROCnRUN and tag @RochesterEvents in their post will be entered in a drawing, where one lucky winner will win a set of Aftershokz wireless headphones. Winner will be announced Tuesday, July 3rd. Runners are encouraged to have fun with it! Make sure to use the #ROCnRUN and tag @RochesterEvents in your post to be eligible!
The Recording Academy® and its affiliated charitable foundation MusiCares® helps our peers in the music community.
While the Recording Academy® is best known for Music's Biggest Night, the GRAMMY Awards Telecast, we serve the music community year-round, by providing emergency aid through MusiCares®, to the advocacy work we do to protect musicians' rights.
Please join us to help keep the music community alive and thriving, giving it as much as it gives us.
