jd-wine-cellars.jpgMacedon, N.Y, - Long Acre Farms, one of New York State's premier Agritourism sites has been answering the same question for fifteen years, "What is new on the farm this year?"  The answer based on the off-season creativity and motivation of the owners, Doug & Joan Allen, has ranged from introducing guests to climbing goats, giant corn mazes and jumping pillows to building an ice cream shop and party barn to this year's answer - a winery.  JD Wine Cellars, one the newest farm wineries in the state and located along the Lake Ontario Wine Trail will open the tasting room doors on May1st. "We are excited to bring our farm's mission of education and fun into the tasting room," commented Joan Allen.  "We want to be a different type of tasting room where guests will come for the wine but they will leave with an experience.  Families are welcome to bring their children as there are activities for all age groups located both within and outside the tasting room. Tasting room menus will change often giving guests a reason to visit on a regular basis." The wine program, for which Doug Allen and Tim Gregory are the winemakers, is a first-time commercial effort for both men.  With a combined ten years of wine making experience the duo are confident there will be a wine for every taste.  "Living in an agricultural area with access to quality fruit is a winemaker's dream" stated Doug Allen.  "Working in small batches we are able to produce unique, high quality wines that can be enjoyed by both the novice and experienced wine enthusiast." JD Wine Cellars, co-owned by Joan Lawrence Allen, husband Doug Allen and mother Charleen Lawrence, will be offering red, white and fruit wines made form 100% whole fruit.  Tastings are $3, but on opening weekend free commemorative tasting glasses will be given to every taster while supplies last.  Educational classes, winery events and tours will be offered and private events can be hosted throughout the year. JD Wine Cellars will be open daily from 12 - 6pm and Long Acre Farms is open 12 - dark in the spring and 10am - dark in the summer and fall.  For more information on events at the farm visit http://www.longacrefarms.com/  or call us directly at 315-986-4202.
