Regional Favorite Holds Court at Devitt’s Nursery in New Windsor; Live Media Coverage Welcome
New Windsor, N.Y. - When the holidays come knocking at Hudson Valley, it's not just Old Saint Nick that has the kiddos buzzing. Eggbert, an over-sized, talkative egg donning a crown, holds court on a throne at Devitt's Nursery & Supply in New Windsor, N.Y. Move over Santa, Eggbert's in town! Eggbert has been a holiday fixture since 1971 and is adored by visitors – both young and old – who come to chat, tell jokes, and take photos with him.
Agritourism is a significant attraction in Orange County, N.Y., drawing visitors with a multitude of activities, including farm visits, craft beverages, and freshly picked produce. Devitt's Nursery & Supply is a must-visit spot in the county, with Eggbert being a key highlight, especially for children. Many families have made it a tradition to visit Eggbert every year, and some who were once entertained by the friendly egg as kids, now bring their own children to meet him.
Eggbert's popularity has only increased over time. In 2011, after taking a break in the 1990s, he returned to his throne as the centerpiece of Devitt's seasonal festivities. Visitors now make their way through a Christmas trail, complete with a wide array of holiday displays and barnyard friends for the kids to interact with, before reaching Eggbert.
Last year, Eggbert was joined by EggClair, who also sings and talks. Families can visit Eggbert and EggClair every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Nov. 24 to Dec. 24. Visitors can also enjoy other activities such as slot car racing and dropping off letters to Santa at a special post office. Additionally, families can purchase holiday items from the shop to stock up for the festive season.
