Mumford, N.Y. - Visit Genesee Country Village & Museum
on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 2-3 as Genesee Country Village & Museum celebrates the writings of Laura Ingalls Wilder with a first-time visit from celebrity guest Melissa Sue Anderson ("Mary" on the Little House on the Prairie television series) and two days packed with fun activities drawn from the life of the Ingalls family.
The Little House books, written in the late 1800s, chronicled Laura Ingalls' life with her family in the Midwest. The themed day at Genesee Country Village & Museum will celebrate rural life in the 19th century as seen through Laura's eyes.
Anderson, who portrayed Laura's older sister who became blind following an illness, will spend both days at the museum where she will talk about her role on the series
during a noon presentation, answer questions and sign autographs. Tickets for the 2 pm autograph session are required ($5 per item purchased at the museum and $10 per item brought from home). In May 2010 she published The Way I See It: A Look Back at My Life on Little House.
Young visitors are invited to dress in their favorite prairie costumes for a fashion promenade.
Historian William Anderson, author of the recently published Laura Ingalls Wilder's Walnut Grove-the story of what happened to Laura after the Little House series, will be on site at the museum during the weekend for autographs
and a talk about his research.
Among the days' events will be activities that bring Laura's world to life, including handkerchief doll making, churning butter and kneading bread plus myriad 19th-century games and contests from barrel rolling to sack races, pig bladder toss and more.
Admission is $17.50 adults; $14.50 seniors & students with ID; $11.40 youth 4-16; and free to children 3 and under and active military with ID.
