feinstein.jpgTickets on sale now for performance by four-time Grammy® nominee, who will be named George Eastman Honorary Scholar Rochester, N.Y. - "Ambassador of the Great American Songbook" and four-time Grammy® nominee Michael Feinstein will give an intimate concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, to benefit George Eastman House, in honor of the museum's 60th anniversary. At the event, Feinstein will receive the title of George Eastman Honorary Scholar for his work in research, scholarship, archiving, and advocating for the history and future of music in film. The concert - to be held in the Hochstein School's award-winning Performance Hall in downtown Rochester - will feature Feinstein playing a Steinway grand piano and singing a repertoire of Broadway and film classics, as well as the songs of George and Ira Gershwin. Feinstein, a friend and supporter of Eastman House, is a collector of Gershwin artifacts and memorabilia, and is a donor of photographs to the museum's collections. Feinstein assisted lyricist Ira Gershwin for six years, and immersed himself in the brothers' extensive musical catalog. Today, he is considered one of the foremost experts and interpreters of Gershwin music, and is internationally recognized for his commitment to the American popular song as well as for producing and hosting the PBS special The Great American Songbook. For his efforts to preserve, protect, and promote the work of composers such as Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, and George Gershwin, Feinstein was appointed to the prestigious Library of Congress National Sound Recording Advisory Board, an organization dedicated to safeguarding America's musical heritage. In addition to the Eastman House anniversary in 2009, it is also the 25th anniversary of Feinstein's professional debut. The concert's lead sponsor is M&T Bank. Tickets to the Feinstein concert start are $60 for Silver Tickets ($55 for members); $100 Gold Tickets with Premium Seating; and $250 for Platinum Tickets with Elite Seating, which includes a post-concert reception with Michael Feinstein. Tickets can be purchased at the Eastman House Store or by phone at (585) 271-3361 ext. 218. For more information, please visit eastmanhouse.org.
