ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Dryden Theatre at George Eastman House will showcase a new collaborative project between the Eastman School of Music and George Eastman House at 8 p.m. Monday, April 6, featuring the presentation of new scores for silent films.Four Eastman School of Music students were asked to write scores for an eclectic selection of films from the George Eastman House collections. Using a chamber ensemble, they will present their results live, for the first time, in the Dryden Theatre. In addition, compositions will be performed by chamber ensemble Eastman Triana for experimental films by filmmakers Jean Detheux, Stephanie Maxwell, and Peter Byrne and Carole Woodlock. These compositions, which previously have been featured at international film festivals, were created by Eastman graduate students who are the co-instructors of the new Film Scoring Techniques class at Eastman School of Music. Many of archival films featured are from the Eastman House's 28mm collection, the largest in the United States, which were recently restored to 35mm film. The live ensemble will include flute, clarinet, percussion, piano, violin, viola, cello, and vocals, under the baton of conductor Yorgos Kouritas. This program was organized under the direction of Reinhild Stiengrover, Eastman School of Music faculty. Program running time is 80 minutes.
