Keep up to date on ski conditions with iloveny.com!
With Wednesday’s storm bringing significant amounts of new snow to many Upstate ski areas, everything’s in place for another fantastic weekend of downhill skiing and riding in New York State. In addition to ideal weather, special events and money saving offers at Empire State ski areas make hitting the slopes in New York even more of a must this season! Some of the areas experiencing significant new snowfall include Whiteface Mountain, Kissing Bridge and Peek ‘n Peak, which each received a foot.
“We have all of our trails open and I honestly haven’t seen better conditions in my five years here,” said Kirt Zimmer, director of sales and marketing for Windham Mountain. “I was out riding yesterday morning and the snow was so soft that I never heard my board scrape anything. It’s a winter wonderland out there!”
It’s a Winter Jam in the Big Apple!
It’s snow festival time – in New York City! Saturday, Feb. 7, Winter Jam NYC brings thousands of action-oriented New Yorkers out to experience the only winter sports festival of its kind in the city. Winter Jam NYC features the return of the 70-foot long snow flume for tubing, a professional snowboarding competition on a 90-foot tall Snowscraper structure, a winter snowfield with snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and a snowman-making contest. Test your climbing skills on one of two rock-climbing walls or learn how to navigate an ice wall!
Traditionally held in Central Park, this year’s Winter Jam NYC will be located in the newly renovated East River Park on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, allowing the event to “spread its wings” while adding the historic Brooklyn skyline as a dynamic backdrop.
Check out acrobatic performances from the high flying Skyriders, live music from artists such as Apollo Run, Jenda White and Dujeous. Defrost in the Warming Hut and try free samples from New York State farmers and producers. Visit your favorite winter sports vendors and enjoy plenty of fun activities for all ages, including arts & crafts and Heavenly Huskies.
This event is presented by NYC Parks & Recreation, I LOVE NEW YORK and Lake Placid. Sponsorship is provided by the Olympic Regional Development Authority, Red Bull, Gore Mountain, Hunter Mountain, New York Family Sports, Pride of New York, I Ski NY, Metro and 98.7 Kiss.
In addition to being a free event, all winter sports equipment will be provided, including tubes for sledding, snow shoes, and cross-country skis. For more information, please visit www.nyc.gov/parks or call 311.
Make a Connection at Windham with Networking Wednesdays
Skiing is sort of like golf in some ways. It's a social activity, so you can do some business while playing. People have been closing deals on the chair lifts at Windham Mountain for many years - and sometimes at Legends Bar & Grill in the base lodge.
For the remainder of this season (except Feb. 18), guests bringing their business card to the ticket window on Wednesdays will receive a 10 percent discount on their adult lift ticket purchase. On those days, Legends will offer half-price wings and specials on domestic beers. At 4 p.m., one business card will be selected at Legends as the winner of a Gravity Card. This gives visitors to Windham $25 off a midweek lift ticket or $15 off weekend tickets. Participants must be present at the drawing to win.
Those who already have a Gravity Card get an even better deal. Networking Wednesdays will give them another 10 percent off their usual $25 midweek discount. Also, if they win the drawing, they will receive a free lift ticket voucher valid any day of this ski season.
So, don’t delay – it’s time to hit the slopes and feel good about making connections that may really pay! (800/754-9463; www.windhammountain.com)
