China Offices Support Increased Tourism State-Wide
ALBANY, NY (November 16, 2015) - New York State highlighted the success of I LOVE NEW YORK China offices and their one-year anniversary. I LOVE NEW YORK representation is based in four China cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu. Together, the offices reach travel agents, group tour operators and other travel professionals, as well as media and consumers in more than 20 other cities.
The economic impact of New York State international tourism reached 18.9 billion, with nearly 15 million international visitors in 2014. Marketing and promotional efforts of I LOVE NEW YORK China are tapping into a $129 billion China tourism market, promoting New York businesses and enticing Chinese travelers to visit New York State to continue to grow tourism visitation numbers.
"With the addition of China offices in 2014 and the launch of our Australia office this year, we're increasing awareness of
New York State Tourism on a global level," said Gavin Landry, Executive Director of Empire State Development Division of Tourism. "Last year, we saw nearly 15 million international travelers and we plan to continue to entice
visitors to spend time and money here. Our representatives in China have hit the ground running and will continue to do so in 2015."
The I LOVE NEW YORK China offices and China Ready Workshops held in 2014 resulted in 21 new travel packages to New York State coordinated by China based tour operators.
Through the efforts of I LOVE NEW YORK to market state tours and L&L Travel Enterprises, Inc., the number one Chinese motor coach operator in New York State, 23 new motor coach tours have been announced and are slated for 2015/2016 to various regions throughout the state including Long Island, Central New York, Hudson Valley, Capital Saratoga, Finger Lakes and the Adirondacks - 90 percent of which are destinations never before visited by the motor coach operator. These new tours come as a direct result of I LOVE NEW YORK China Ready Workshops and the China Familiarization Tour.
The 23 one and two-day itineraries in 2015/2016 were curated as part of the program to offer experiences that are
attractive to the targeted market based on their current travel and spending habits. These itineraries were designed to encourage visitors planning their next vacation to New York to think about the destinations outside of New York
City, as well as enhance their stays while visiting their children attending college in New York State.
In an effort to strengthen tourism promotions with a global audience, I LOVE NEW YORK conducted a sales mission this spring in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou to offer face-to-face meeting opportunities to both New York State delegations and Chinese tour operators in each city.
More than 40 media interviews were conducted across all three China cities and 200 appointments were held with travel agents and tour operators about traveling to New York State.
Director of I LOVE NEW YORK China Brenda He said, "China has become one of the most important sources of overseas
tourism for the United States. With the implementation of the 10-year U.S. visa structure we are expecting a boom of China-U.S. travel. We have great confidence in the market and will continue our effort to further promote New York State as an ideal U.S. destination."
As a result of the Governor's support of tourism and the I LOVE NEW YORK China announcement in 2014, the industry has seen an increase in spending, state and local tax revenue, visitors and employment. In 2014, New York's tourism industry generated direct spending of $62.5 billion, producing an estimated $7.8 billion in state and local taxes.
The number of visitors to New York is estimated to have increased by 8.7 million and projected to total nearly 227.5 million visitors in 2014. As the fourth largest employment sector in New York, the tourism industry also added 20,600 jobs in 2014 for a total of (853,100) jobs. One out of every 12 jobs in New York is tourism-related.
