pathway-tours.jpgAlbany, NY - One-hundred twenty-two motor coaches with tourists from throughout North America will visit Albany from August 9 - 11.  The pre-planned tours, including public concerts at the Times Union Center and Palace Theatre, have been developed by Pathway Tours in London, Ontario and were inspired by the Quadricentennial celebration of the region's discovery by explorer Henry Hudson.   "When the American Bus Association Awarded the Top 100 Destination designation to Albany, I knew it would be the perfect location for our major summer tours," stated Bob Van Kleek, President of Pathway Tours. The highlight of the tours will be a concert by Irish tenor Daniel O'Donnell and Mary Duff at the Times Union Center on August 10 at 2:00 p.m.  The Palace Theatre will host two performances by the Comedian Yakov Smirnoff on August 9 at 7:00 p.m. and August 11 at 2:00 p.m. According to the American Bus Association, each overnight motor coach tour injects $12,000 into the local economy.  Based on the number of tours booked the total impact of these tours to Albany will be $1,464,000.  The groups, which number over 5,000 participants, will be staying at nine Albany hotels and also will enjoy a Hudson River Dinner Cruise on the Captain JP, dining at the new downtown restaurant Dale Miller and the Italian American Community Center as well as at several host hotels.  All visitors will be taken on shopping excursions and many will tour the 1609 exhibit at the New York State Museum and other Albany attractions. The concerts are also open to the general public.  Tickets may be purchased through the Times Union Center (1-800-30-EVENT) or Palace Theatre (518-476-1000) box offices.
