Enjoy Gorgeous Fall Foliage on Your Bike!
Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Looking for a fun, outdoor, three-day weekend getaway this Autumn? Get on your bike and enjoy peak Fall foliage on the first annual Saratoga Foliage Ride this October 7th and 8th. The Saratoga Regional YMCA and Saratoga non-profit Bikeatoga have teamed up to sponsor the event, which will feature some of Saratoga county’s most scenic routes at the most beautiful time of the year. Along the way, riders will see history and horse farms, pumpkins, cider donuts and more!
All participants will receive a buffet breakfast, a commemorative t-shirt and a day pass to the YMCA facility on West Avenue. “It’s a great opportunity to unwind after the ride with a swim, sauna, HydroMassage or afternoon yoga and stretching class,” said Scott Clark, CEO of the SRYMCA.
According to Bikeatoga President Greg Faust, riders can choose one of three routes each day – 30, 50, and 75 miles. “Visitors come to Saratoga Springs to enjoy our award-winning downtown and world-class shopping, dining and accommodations. We want those visitors to also see the fantastic cycling roads we enjoy in and around the city,” Faust said.
Saturday’s rides will visit the Saratoga Battle Monument and cyclists on the 50- and 75-mile routes will ride to the Saratoga National Historical Park, traveling through the very fields where American forces first defeated the British army. And don’t be surprised if the sounds of muskets and cannon fire fill the crisp Autumn air. Re-enactors portraying Redcoats and Continental soldiers will be encamped in the park that day, honoring the 246th anniversary of the Battle of Saratoga.
Sunday’s rides will meander through fields, farmlands and gorgeous Fall foliage.
“We have beautiful routes, and the foliage should be near peak,” said Ed Lindner, Bikeatoga’s Advocacy Chair, “And when you’re done riding, you can spend your afternoon and evenings shopping, dining and enjoying the nightlife downtown. If you’re a cyclist, this is the perfect Autumn weekend getaway,”
In addition to riders, organizers are looking for business sponsorships and volunteers. For more information and to register, sponsor or volunteer, visit www.srymca.org/Saratoga-foliage-ride.
