Schweinfurth Summer Art CampAuburn, NY (May 10, 2023) – Schweinfurth Art Center is accepting registrations for its Summer Art Camps, which will run the last two weeks in July and first two weeks in August. Half-day camps are available for students aged 6 to 15, with groups separated by age. The details:

Week 1 – Monster Mash Week: Students will make sketches of monster masks, monster arms, monster legs, then bring the sketches into the 3-dimensional world through sculpture, fabric and more.

TIME: 9 a.m. to noon July 17-21, 2023

TEACHER: Gwendolyn Andersen

AGES: 6-10

Week 1 – Intro to Printmaking: Students will learn fundamental processes to create beautiful and functional artwork, creating reusable imagery that can be replicated onto a multitude of surfaces. Students will work together with thoughtful decision-making to prepare, plan, and experiment with mark making, color, and personal expression.

TIME: 1 to 4 p.m. July 17-21, 2023

TEACHER: Gwendolyn Andersen

AGES: 6-10

Week 2 – Made in Mexico: Practice watercolor and acrylic painting, and hand building clay with a focus on pattern, color, and the elements of art. Draw the majestic Quetzalcoatl bird of Mexico, kiln fire a Mexican Talavera animal pot, paint canvases inspired by Huichol yarn paintings, and more.

TIME: 9 a.m. to noon July 24-28, 2023

TEACHER: Warner Varno

AGES: 6-10

Week 2 – Deep Dive into Color: Students will use a variety of traditional and non-traditional painting techniques in watercolor, acrylic, oil-based paint pen, and gouache to create surfaces. They will study color theory and the principles of design while utilizing graphite pencil, charcoal, and pen and ink drawing techniques on various surfaces, including paper, canvas, and kiln-fired clay.

TIME: 1 to 4 p.m. July 24-28, 2023

TEACHER: Warner Varno

AGES: 11-15

Week 3 – Ceramic Summer Camp: Students will have the chance to learn the favorite techniques and strategies of two teachers, Zoey Murphy Houser and Victoria Savka. They will explore handbuilding basics and expand into more complex projects as the week progresses.

TIME: 9 a.m. to noon July 31 to Aug. 4, 2023

TEACHERS: Victoria Savka & Zoey Murphy Houser

AGES: 6-10

Week 3 – Teen Ceramic Summer Camp: Students will spend the week exploring ceramics, first learning to throw on the wheel from Zoey Murphy-Houser for two days, then handbuilding with Victoria Savka for two days. The final day will cover surface decorations and painting.

TIME: 1 to 4 p.m. July 31 to Aug. 4, 2023

TEACHERS: Victoria Savka & Zoey Murphy Houser

AGES: 11-15

Week 4 – Art Games: This camp will utilize different types of art-focused games and play to generate ideas and sketches as building blocks to create art and their own games in different mediums, including sculpture, printmaking, drawing, and painting.

TIME: 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 7-11, 2023

TEACHER: Reina Apraez

AGES: 6-10

Week 4 – Make Your Own Book: Books are a great way to collect ideas, pictures, stories, and mementos all in one place. Students will experience demonstrations of art techniques like sewing, stamping, collaging, printing, and illustrating. By the end of camp, each student will compile their various works into their own bound book.

TIME: 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 7-11, 2023

TEACHER: Reina Apraez

AGES: 11-15
