Schweinfurth Art CenterAuburn, NY (Dec. 20, 2021) – The Schweinfurth Art Center has received a $49,500 grant from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support the state’s nonprofit arts and culture sector. The money was awarded under NYSCA’s Support for Organizations category, and will support all of the Art Center’s programming.

“The arts have long been a critical sector in our economy, and as we continue to rebuild a stronger New York, it's essential we do all we can help this industry thrive once again,” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said in announcing $45 million of NYSCA awards.

“We are grateful to the state Legislature and Gov. Kathy Hochul for recognizing the important role cultural institutions play in the state’s economy, and how the pandemic has affected us,” said Schweinfurth Executive Director Donna Lamb. “This grant will enable us to continue offering the top-quality classes and exhibits that we have become known for.”

The Schweinfurth Art Center, which celebrated its 40th anniversary this year, offers more than a dozen exhibitions each year in its three galleries as well as art classes for youth and adults, in-depth workshops both online and in person, and community programs that involve people of all ages.

Currently on display through Jan. 9, 2022, are two exhibits: “Quilts=Art=Quilts 2021,” which showcases fiber art from all over the world, and “Marks Made,” an exhibition of hand-stitched textiles, screen prints, and mixed media pieces by Christine Mauersberger.

On Jan. 10, the Art Center will close down for installation of our popular “Both Ends of the Rainbow” and “Three Lakes Sampler” exhibits. The shows, which feature artwork by pre-K through 12th grade students and senior citizens in the region, will open Feb. 6, 2022.
