Auburn, NY (July 8, 2020) - The Schweinfurth Art Center has received two $10,000 grants, one to cover costs associated with COVID-19 and the other to help pay for the installation of a new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system.
The former grant, from the New York State Council on the Arts CARES Act, covers general operating expenses. The grant is part of $75 million that the National Endowment for the Arts allocated to support jobs in the arts and sustain arts organizations.
"This grant has been essential for the Schweinfurth to maintain our staffing," said Schweinfurth Executive Director Donna Lamb. "The funding enabled our staff to transition some of our classes and exhibits to online offerings."
The second $10,000 grant, from the John Ben Snow Foundation and Memorial Trust, helps to compete fundraising for the recently completed HVAC system. The new, energy-efficient system replaces one that was well past its useful life and adds air conditioning and sufficient heating to the art center's second floor classroom and gallery.
"This new system will allow the art center to expand our class and exhibit offerings by enabling us to use the spaces year-round," Lamb said.
The Schweinfurth is planning to reopen Aug. 7, 2020, with its annual "Made in NY" exhibition. Staff are currently working to prepare the facility for reopening as well as planning the installation of the new exhibit.
Art center also recently announced a call for artists to enter its annual Quilts=Art=Quilts juried exhibition. The deadline for entries is Aug. 1, 2020. For more information and to enter, link to the art center's website at http://www.schweinfurthartcenter.org/opportunities_qaqentry.cfm.
