Staatsburg, N.Y.  — This May, Staatsburgh State Historic Site will offer a 30-minute presentation on Staatsburgh and the Titanic, outdoors on the mansion’s portico. Offered on Fridays,

May 14, 21, and 28 at 2pm, the program is free, but registration is required: www.Staatsburgh.Eventbrite.com

Staatsburgh and the Titanic explores the connections between the Gilded Age estate along the Hudson River and the famous ocean liner. Staatsburgh’s owners, Ruth and Ogden Mills, planned to sail on the Titanic. First class passengers on the ship included the Millses’ friends, neighbors, and Mrs. Mills’ cousin, John Jacob Astor, the wealthiest man to perish in the sinking. The historic site staff will display some facsimile items that would have been seen on the Titanic and tell some moving stories of the last hours of passengers and crew.

Guidelines for COVID safety will be followed: masks and social distancing will be required of all attendees, and attendance will be limited.  Assisted listening devices are available on request, to make hearing easier with the existing guidelines. Attendees may wish to enjoy a stroll along the river, a picnic or a hike on the woodland trails in Mills and Norrie State Parks before or after the program.

Staatsburgh is offering a wide range of outdoor programs this spring and summer, for all ages. All programs are free, but require registration. To see a full list of programs and to register, visit: www.Staatsburgh.Eventbrite.com
