Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to be a part of a new, exciting leisure activity, as a participant in the only Dragon Boat Race in the Mid-Hudson Valley this summer! On Saturday, July 5th, join a team in friendly competition on a short, 200-meter course. Men and women of all ages and skill levels can enjoy paddling with families and friends for stress-free exercise and recreation.

At the same time, enjoy a day-long Asian Cultural Festival on the waterfront, with kids' games, music, food and drink, fun and dancing. Colorful and different, make this a highlight of your summer! The Race and Festival are the same weekend and location as the DCRCOC Balloon Festival! The fun begins at 8:30am by awakening the dragon with a colorful eye-painting ceremony for each boat!

Register as a team or as an individual. For information and to register email info@DutchessDragonBoat.org or visit www.DutchessDragonBoat.org.

A Dragon Boat is a 40-foot long fiberglass "canoe" featuring a carved painted dragon head on the front, a wooden tail on the back, and scales painted on the hull. The paddles represent the dragon's claws, which stretch out from the four foot wide hull.

A dragon boat club from Montreal, Canada, 22 Dragons, is providing the boats and equipment. They‘ll also provide training, an experienced Steerer, and a complete safety review before the race. Each team receives a biographical profile on the website, which is a great way for a team sponsor to publicize an organization, club, event or business. Final team rosters must be submitted by June 30.

While the races are underway, the shoreline will buzz with energy and excitement from the Asian Cultural Festival. Bring your friends and family to the beautiful riverfront and see staged performances, table tennis, sushi and cooking demos, and more. Many art-oriented workshops are set to take place, including temporary dragon tattoos. Learn how to make a kite and even the ancient art of origami. People of all ages can enjoy a day of friendly competition with a chance to experience something new, colorful, and special. A broad range of food and beverage vendors and food trucks will be at the festival grounds.

The Dutchess Dragon Boat Race & Festival goes from 8:30am until 2pm on Saturday, July 5th at the Hudson River Rowing Association Community Boathouse on Water Street in Poughkeepsie. It benefits Arts Mid-Hudson and the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
