Sullivan County, NY (June 13, 2023) – The Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association is pleased to announce a new dove will be unveiled on the Sullivan Catskills Dove Trail. The new dove is presented by Rent My Escape and will be located at 3512 State Route 97, Barryville, NY 12719. The unveiling ceremony will take place on Friday, June 23 at 1 p.m.
This is the 65th Dove to be added to the Dove Trail. It was painted by local artist Catherine Four and illustrates Rent My Escape owner Julius Robinson’s love of the Delaware River. One side depicts a canoe trip starting above the Roebling Bridge in Lackawaxen, and the other side represents a relaxing atmosphere seated from one of the Rent My Escape vacation rentals.
Robinson owned a canoe livery and campground in Barryville for many years and was an active member of the Upper Delaware Council’s Water Use Committee and was appointed by Congress to the Citizen’s Advisory Council.
“The area has been very good to me and my family for the last hundred years, and I felt that it would be a good time in my life to give back to Barryville, with a scenic highway beautification project, featuring the importance of clean water,” Robinson remarked. “This is especially important since I had a canoe livery and campground and participated in the writing of the management plan for the Upper Delaware River.”
The dove will sit on Route 97 at the northern entrance to Barryville, just across from the Delaware River. It will be part of a larger landscaped area that includes a pond, water features, and vibrant plants and trees created by Robinson, with grant funding from Sullivan Renaissance.
“I felt that this place has such importance to Sullivan County for its scenic beauty that it should be part of the Dove Trail,” Robinson said.
“We know this will be a beautiful addition to Barryville and the Sullivan Catskills Dove Trail,” said Roberta Byron-Lockwood, President/CEO of the Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association. “With 65 doves and more being added this year, we hope it will inspire visitors to explore all that the Sullivan Catskills has to offer.”
