On the weekends of September 10-11, 17-18 and 24-25, 2011, more than 180 events will be held from the Capital District to New York City.The Ramble brings people outside to enjoy our distinct cultural heritage and the natural resources of the Hudson River Valley during the Northeast's most beautiful time of the year. It also serves as an economic boost for our local economies. Nearly 200 environmental, land conservancy, trail and historic preservation organizations, New York State historic sites and parks, as well as the National Park Service participate by offering events, and many are free of charge and family friendly. Guided hikes, cycling and kayaking tours, historic site walks, festivals and river explorations are an example of some of the types of events that will be available for every ability level. With all that the Ramble has to offer, you'll have no problem finding a Ramble adventure near you. Here are some of the events happening this weekend near you:
  • Take an interactive walk through Troy's past at History Walk- History Underfoot and Overhead (9/24, 10:30 am). Shop for locally grown foods beforehand at the Troy Farmers' Market where the tour will begin.
  • Take a Fall Foliage Hike to Dickinson Fire Tower (9/24, 11 am) at Grafton State Park. Views from atop the tower show Vermont's Green mountains, the Berkshires, Taconic and Adirondack ranges.
  • Public Tours of the Replica Ship Half Moon (9/24-25, 10:00 am) will be available in Albany this weekend. Stop by and see what life was like aboard the ship in 1609.
  • Special content tours at the Bronck Museum discussing the environmental impact of the early American lifestyle will be available at 18th Century Green (9/17, 10:00 am & 9/18, 1:00 pm). The museum features what may be the oldest surviving dwelling in Upstate New York.
