Thurman, N.Y. – For over a decade, Thurman Farmers, just 20 minutes from Lake George, have celebrated fall by offering a free self-guided tour of this rural town.
Following the event map to sites on the town’s main arteries and secluded back roads, visitors will self-guide to more than a dozen businesses that have opened their doors inviting the public to see the inner workings of their operations. Directories, available at each site or online at https://www.visitthurman.com/fall-farm-tour/ are provided to guide guests to farms with traditional row crops, cows, sheep and goats, as well as maple farms with sugar houses filled with maple treats, a tree farm with mushroom and wild plant walks and an artisan market.
See, too, a unique garment-manufacturing facility that creates its wares on vintage lace-making equipment and a town hall quilt show. Visitors may taste and sample their way from one stop to the next with fresh-from-the-oven baked goods, meats, apple cider, jams and jellies, maple treats, homemade ice cream and internationally-awarded cheeses. Find breakfast and lunch options, including hot sandwiches and wood-fired pizza.
Demonstrations and activities are offered at each of the sites. From 10 – 2 visitors may have a unique Thurman Fall Farm Tour pictorial postmark canceled. Learn about organic farming methods, bee-keeping, foraging for mushrooms, edible wild plants and herbs. Check out the Revolution Rail operation at the train station.
Whatever the age or taste, visitors will find much to love at the Thurman Fall farm Tour.
