Finger Lakes Region Rotary District 7120 Gives Back to Albany at Conference Albany, N.Y. - The Albany County Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACCVB) is pleased to welcome the Rotary District 7120 Conference to Albany, April 23-25, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. As part of the conference experience the Rotary District 7120, located in the Finger Lakes Region of New York, is offering its attendees a chance to give back to Albany. On the morning of Friday, April 23rd, approximately 50 Rotary conference attendees, along with interact and international exchange students, will be working together to clean-up the Erastus Corning Preserve in downtown Albany...all in the name of Voluntourism! Voluntourism, as defined by VolunTourism.org, is the conscious, seamlessly integrated combination of voluntary service to a destination and the best, traditional elements of travel - arts, culture, geography, history and recreation - in that destination. "We are excited about offering the option of voluntary service projects for inbound groups," said Deb Goedeke, Convention Services manager of the ACCVB. "Voluntourism is a great way for business and pleasure travelers to give back to the communities they visit." "The main objective of the Rotary is service," said District 7120 Governor Mark Wyse. "We try to give back to communities whenever we can." Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. "The Rotary motto is Service Above Self, so participating in voluntourism is a perfect activity for us to partake in when traveling to other cities." While in town, conference attendees will also be touring the New York State Museum and Capitol, and riding the Albany Aqua Ducks.
