albany-logo-new.JPGAlbany, N.Y. - The Albany County Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACCVB) is pleased to welcome the CSEA 100th Annual Delegates Meeting to the Empire State Plaza in Albany from October 18th to October 22nd, 2010.  Many of the 1,400 meeting attendees are eager to lend a helping hand for the CSEA Day of Service, on Tuesday, October 19. Participants will sign up to volunteer several hours of their time on this day...all in the spirit of VOLUNTOURISM.   Voluntourism, as defined by, is the conscious, seamlessly integrated combination of voluntary service to a destination and the best, traditional elements of travel - arts, culture, geography, history and recreation - in that destination.  "We are excited about offering the option of voluntary service projects for inbound groups," says Deb Goedeke, Convention Services manager of the ACCVB. "Voluntourism is a great way for business and pleasure travelers to give back to the communities they visit." CSEA conference attendees have the option to sign up for one of several different volunteer activities: the Empire Stroll Walkathon to raise funds for the CSEA Disaster Relief; 'Get Ready, Be Safe' where the Red Cross of Northeastern New York will teach participants about how to protect their home and family before a disaster strikes; or 'Freezin' for a Reason' which gives adventurers the opportunity to learn about the new CSEA Polar Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics. Outside of the Empire State Plaza, CSEA attendees also have the option to volunteer at the Food Bank of Northeastern New York, the Hudson-Mohawk River Humane Society, or the Senior Citizens Center. CSEA was the first known organization of state employees when it was founded at the NYS Capitol in 1910. Since then it has grown to represent nearly 300,000 workers in every part of New York, including a growing private sector division.
