Saranac Lake – During the 2016 Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, New York City Filmmaker Mark Burns came to Saranac Lake to capture the process from start to finish of what it takes to make the carnival happen. That year, the weather gave us many challenges, and Mark's camera caught all the drama.
We're excited that Mark’s film, 'Ice Palace, A Love Letter', will have its world premiere at the Lake Placid Film Festival on October 27, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. The film offers a rarely seen, behind the scenes peek at how the Ice Palace is built, and captures the people working hard to keep the carnival tradition alive since 1897. You can watch the movie trailer here: https://vimeo.com/357653790.
The premiere will include a red-carpet event, featuring photo opportunities with the stars and director Mark Burns. Attendees are encouraged to dress in ice blue tones or wear icy-looking jewelry or accessories to add to the fun, if they choose. After the film, there will be a Q&A session with Mark Burns.
The Lake Placid Film Festival is selling tickets to the movie for $15 at the Palace Theater door. There are no advance ticket sales, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early.
The Lake Placid Film Festival runs from October 23-27 and they have many other films screening. You can purchase a festival pass which would include this film and others. Visit their website to learn more about the festival: www.lakeplacidfilmfestival.org.
The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Committee, formally known as the Society for Promotion of Winter Carnival, Saranac Lake, Inc., is a not-for-profit 501(c)(4) organization of volunteers dedicated to planning and presenting an annual mid-winter festival. This 10-day, communitywide event traces its roots to a one-day Winter Carnival held in 1897 by the Pontiac Club. The Carnival honors its heritage every year by building an Ice Palace from blocks of ice harvested from Lake Flower’s Pontiac Bay, where carnival events have been traditionally held for generations. For more information, visit the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival website at www.saranaclakewintercarnival.com. The 2020 Winter Carnival will take place January 31 - February 9.
