F&D Fall Cap Saratoga

Fall Food and Drink,Capital Saratoga

City of Troy WaterfrontRestaurant Weeks (in Albany and Troy), Riverfront Jazz Festival, Cheese Tours and Chowderfest are a few major festivals in early autumn in the Capital Saratoga region. Savor the fruits of the fields, vineyards and orchards in this golden time – days and nights are still fairly warm, but a nip in the air encourages gratitude for the sunshine. Get outdoors! Whether you’re hiking, biking or just taking a stroll or a drive, once you get hungry and thirsty – and you will – you’ll easily find distinctive places to satisfy your appetites here. If you’re fishing at Great Sacandaga Lake, expect hearty meals with stunning lake views; in Saratoga, perhaps you’ll opt for Belgian cuisine. The choices are plentiful.

Craft brewers are everywhere these days it seems, and Troy claims the first one in the Capital Region to also have a restaurant. You can enjoy a tour and tastings there and at the wineries on the Upper Hudson Valley Wine Trail. Remember to bring a growler or a few bottles of wine home with you to share at holiday gatherings.

Farmers’ markets remain open: visit the one on Troy’s waterfront on Saturdays all year long. Some area farms will be taking orders for grass-fed turkeys, pigs and more, if you plan to prepare your holiday meals at home. Purchase – or even pick your own – late season vegetables or apples as a tasty and healthy reminder of your autumn visit to the Capital region.
