Huntington & Port Washington

Start in Port Washington at Sands Point Preserve, the former mansion of Harry F. Guggenheim, featuring a natural history museum, nature preserve and magnificent views of Long Island Sound.

Head south on Rte 101 to Rte 25A and the town of Roslyn and visit the extensive sculpture gardens and changing exhibitions at the Nassau County Museum of Art.

Take Rte 25A east to Rte 107. Go north to Chicken Valley Rd to the Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park in Oyster Bay. This former Gold Coast estate boasts 409 acres to explore. Enjoy lunch in Oyster Bay. In Huntington, visit the Heckscher Museum of Art, containing an art collection of over 1,800 works from Renaissance masters to contemporary Long Island artists. Overnight at a Huntington hotel or at the stunning, Oheka Castle.


Continue east on Rte 25A to Centerport and explore the unique combination of a Gold Coast Era mansion, marine and natural history museum, planetarium and park - The Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum.  

Further east on Rte 25A is the village of Stony Brook. Take a stroll among the specialty shops and eateries in this colonial harbor side town. At the Stony Brook Grist Mill, you can observe and interact with a miller as he tends to the 18th-century mill's operations. Across Dock Rd from the Three Village Inn, take a cruise aboard the Discovery, a 35-passenger pontoon boat which departs from the Boatworks Marina and traverses an 88-acre wetlands preserve for a fascinating 1 ½  hour tour.
