Wineries in New York

Visit New York's famed wine regions, wine trails, and historic wineries

New York is a great state to visit to explore exciting wine regions, to learn about the history of wine in the United States, and to simply enjoy a glass while overlooking scenic vineyards. There are hundreds of wineries around the state, set on the shores of the Finger Lakes, amid the farms of the beautiful North Fork of Long Island, and even on piers in Manhattan and Brooklyn!

The Finger Lakes, known for its white Rieslings and lighter reds like Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc, features more than 100 wineries, many that have earned national recognition. You can visit individual wineries, or, to make things more manageable, follow a wine trail, with participating vineyards dotting the larger Finger Lakes: Cayuga Lake Wine Trail, Keuka Lake Wine Trail, and Seneca Lake Wine Trail. Several operators organize guided wine tastings, including the award-winning Experience! The Finger Lakes.

Long Island's North Fork and South Fork, about two hours east of New York City, offer another nationally-known wine country, including Pellegrini Vineyards and Bedell Cellars, international-medal winners. For those who want to pedal among the vineyards, East End BikeTours and other operators offer organized, guided trips by bike or bus with tastings along the way.

You'll find wineries and experiences in every region of New York State. The Hudson Valley is home to more than 30 wineries, including the nation’s oldest, Brotherhood Winery. Cold winter temperatures along the Niagara Escarpment produce world-famous ice wines, made from grapes frozen on the vine. Try them in cozy tasting rooms along the Niagara Wine Trail near the Falls, or trek the Thousand Islands-Seaway wine trail and the Adirondack Coast Wine Trail and Cooperstown Beverage Trail for wine with breathtaking scenery along with fine ciders and beers. Lake Erie Wine Country and the Grape Discovery Center in Chautauqua-Allegheny are great places to expand your wine knowledge.

There's even award-winning made being made in New York City at Red Hook Winery in Brooklyn and City Winery in Manhattan.

Sip the finest wines in the Empire State!
