New York Anniversaries & Milestones

For much more on New York State history, visit our Path Through History website!

New York State has long been a crossroads for civic, cultural, and historic firsts. In 2020, the Empire State is celebrating major milestones including the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which prohibits states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex. Events are planned throughout the year at key sites like the Susan B. Anthony Museum & House and in Seneca Falls, where the suffragist movement began.

Other important anniversaries and milestones in 2020 include the 30th anniversary of Pride on the Beach on Fire Island and the 20th anniversary of the Long Island Aquarium, the 60th anniversary of world-class sculpture park Storm King Art Center and the 10th anniversary of the Walkway Over the Hudson in the Hudson Valley, the 100th anniversary of Doubleday Field at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, the 150th anniversary of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, and the 50th anniversary of the New York City Marathon.
