L. Frank Baum & The American Fairy Tale

Details

The All Things Oz Museum and the Manlius Cinema invite audiences to honor one of our nation’s most enduring cultural contributions: the American fairy tale. L. Frank Baum, born in Chittenango, New York, and raised in the Syracuse area, grew up to write The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. In 1914, Baum expanded his Land of Oz on the silver screen with His Majesty, the Scarecrow of Oz, a silent film he personally wrote and produced. Blending familiar characters with new adventures, the movie tells a whimsical tale of love, misrule, and redemption in Oz. The Scarecrow—no longer just a companion on the Yellow Brick Road, but a leader whose wisdom and kindness prove that true intelligence comes from experience and compassion.

June 20-21, the All Things Oz Museum will feature exhibits about L. Frank Baum & Early OZ - from the 1900 book, to the Broadway musical of 1903, right up through the movie His Majesty The Scarecrow of Oz which was released in 1914.

On June 23rd, the Manlius Cinema will present a newly restored version of His Majesty, the Scarecrow of Oz, complete with an entirely new musical soundtrack, shown in the cinema’s historic theater.

Tickets $10. Purchase here.
