Clara Barton established the first American Red Cross in Dansville, NY in 1881. The Clara Barton Chapter #1 House functions as both an office and a museum exploring the history of the American Red Cross and the life of Clara Barton, who was both known as the "Angel of the Battlefield" in the Civil War and a staunch fighter for women’s rights.
