  • The Bolton Historical Museum would like to invite you to the grand opening of our beautiful new timber frame gallery, beginning Memorial Day Weekend 2017. Come explore our two new amazing exhibits. Admission is free. The Bolton Historical Museum is proud to present the following two new exhibits for the 2017 season. Along the Shore: Boats and Boating on Lake George 1880-1920,” an exhibition of antique pleasure boats, features a Peterborough sailing canoe, an F.R. Smith rowboat built in Bolton Landing, a Rushton rowboat once owned by the Knapp family, W.K. Bixby’s St. Lawrence skiff and a Morris canoe that belonged to noted conservationist John Apperson. A highlight of the exhibit is a tender, or rowboat, that serviced John Boulton Simpson’s Fanita, a 65-foot long steam yacht built in 1890, as well other Fanita artifacts such as a steam gauge board, a ship’s wheel and signal cannon. Thirty-four boating-related photographs from the 1890s from the Jule & Fred Thatcher collection, and contemporary articles, advertisements and commentary from the archives of The Lake George Mirror are also featured. Bolton Serves the Nation,” an exhibition of Bolton Landing residents and their long tradition of military service, tells eight individual stories through uniforms, awards, medals, photographs and military paraphernalia. This very personal exhibition showcases one small town’s century of sacrifice and dedication. A Path Through History attraction.
