Details

An official Path Through History Site! The oldest building in Queens, dating to c. 1661, the Bowne House is an emblem to tolerance and diversity. Named for John Bowne who fought for his right to worship freely as a Quaker against Dutch New Amsterdam, it was then inhabited by 9 generations of civically-minded descendants, many who fought for women's education and abolition in 19th Century New York.
