An official Path Through History Site! Located along the Mohawk River, Canal Place is the historic core of the city and features an interesting mix of commercial and industrial buildings as well as the remains of the Erie Canal, including Lock 17, one of the highest historic lift locks in the state. In addition to recreational activities such as hiking and biking, the area has become a hub for shopping and dining and is home to the Mohawk Valley Arts Center.
