Chenango River Theatre Inc.

As the only equity theatre in a 3 county area, our goal is to create a socially aware and responsive company that leads our community artistically and enhances economic development of the region. CRT was founded based on using high quality, professional equity theatre in a rural area as an economic stimulus for the region. Headed into our 8th season, we are by far the largest professional performing arts organization in Chenango County and a proven attraction with over 6,000 attending in 2013. With over 70% of our audience coming from outside the county, the business model of using non-profit, professional theatre to attract newcomers to our community is working. Artistically our philosophy is that theatre is like good education - just as it’s irresponsible to teach students only what they want to learn, it's artistically irresponsible to give the community only what they want to see. We strive to produce transcendent work, entertaining and enlightening.
