Cole's Woods

Details

The trails of Cole's Woods are historic as the first lighted cross-country ski trails in North America opening in December of 1971. The trails continue to play host to several cross-country ski races each year, along with running races and other community events as well as being a favorite recreational area among local community members. There is the lighted 5km Race Loop; the Sri Chinmoy Peace Mile lighted ski trail; lighted and non-lighted ski trails and non-lighted snowshoe trails. In the winter season trails are groomed. The historic, French and Indian War and Revolutionary War, Halfway Brook flows through the trails which are cleverly named. Cole's Wood was named for Norman Cole who had a blacksmith business on the Plank Road, now Glen Street in front today's Glens Falls Family YMCA. Cole's Woods is maintained by an organization of volunteers dedicated to encouraging free and public recreational use of the park. (Friends of Cole's Woods).
