Cortland County Historical Society

An official Path Through History Site! The Cortland County Historical Society operates from the 1882 Italianate home of inventor and real estate developer James Suggett. Founded in 1925, the Cortland County Historical Society collects, preserves, and interprets artifacts and documents representative of Cortland County's history. The Kellogg Memorial Research Center serves as a repository for information about Cortland County's history. The Collection includes maps, censuses, city and county directories, cemetery records, genealogies, histories, vital (birth, death, and marriage) records, surname files, military records, photographic files, scrapbooks, newspapers, and more. All research at the Kellogg Memorial Research Center is assisted. Members receive free assisted research, while there is a small fee for non-members. Research requests may also be submitted by mail and email (for similar fees). The Kellogg Memorial Research Center is handicapped accessible and open Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. The Suggett House Museum is home to exhibits related to Cortland County. These exhibits allow visitors to see the items that have shaped Cortland County over the last 200 years. From Brockway Trucking Company to Wickwire Brothers, the businesses, industries and people of Cortland County are reflected in our collection and exhibits. The museum is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m.
