Huascar & Co. Bakeshop is a pristine little bakery that houses a big American dream! Inside, Dominican-born Chef Huascar Aquino, NYC's first and only winner of Food Network's Cupcake Wars (Season 9 Episode 1), bakes delicious and unique cupcakes, cookies, cheesecakes, flans and other Caribbean and Latin-American inspired desserts. Among these are the mouthwatering Spiked Tres Leches Cupcake with a Puerto Rican rum flavored filling, Alfajores with a dulce de leche filling to rival any you'd find in Argentina, and French Macarons with an unmistakably Caribbean twist. Together with his assistant baker, Heather Irizarry, they also create beautiful custom cakes.
The bakery storefront is clad in a lustrous copper and was design by renowned New York City architect George Ranalli. There is limited seating by the pretty ocean blue slanting wall whose geometric cutouts echo the great NYC skyline. The counter staff is sweet and attentive and is truly the frosting on the cake. Chef Huascar is often there and greets visitors with his bright smile and winning personality. It is a bright little jewel-box of a bakery in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan, near Columbus Circle, Central Park, Lincoln Center, Broadway theaters, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and the Intrepid Air & Space Museum.
