John J Harvey Fireboat

An official Path Through History Site! Built in 1931, the JOHN J. HARVEY is capable of pumping up to 18,000 gallons of water a minute. She served the New York City Fire Department until her retirement in 1994. On September 11, 2001, the fireboat was reactivated as FDNY MARINE 2 and returned to service immediately following the attacks on the World Trade Center. Alongside other FDNY fireboats, she pumped water for 80 hours, until water mains were restored. The fireboat is open to the public and offers dockside interpretive displays as well as special events.
