Lakes to Locks Passage ~ NY's Great Northeast Journey, the Lake George Region

Details

A self-guided tour along the continent’s first interconnected waterway to spectacular landscapes laden with history. See the historic waters of the Hudson River, Lake George, the Champlain Canal, and Lake Champlain, which shaped the destinies of the United States and Canada. Drive along the 200+-mile-long byway midway between Manhattan and Montreal. The Lake George region offers a 50-mile loop on the west side of the historic lake. Lake George and its surrounding area were an important strategic location during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. In 2024 the Lakes to Locks Passage won the National Scenic Byway Foundation’s (NSBF) Visitor Experience Award for its 200-mile Turning Point Trail illustrating events that led up to the Battles of Saratoga, following in the footsteps of Major General John Burgoyne – including a guidebook, kiosks, interpretive signs, pocket parks, and visitor center exhibits.
