Long Island Explorium

Details

An official Path Through History Site! The Long Island Explorium, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization and a chartered member of the New York State Department of Education, serves as a dynamic Children's Science Museum dedicated to advancing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) education. The Maritime Explorium is a hands-on interactive museum for families to explore the rich maritime heritage of the area through activities and exhibits rich in science, technology, engineering and math. The museum is housed in the historic Bayles Chandlery building located on the waterfront in downtown Port Jefferson.  The museum has an exhibit area dedicated to the history of the building with photos of the exterior and interior of the Chandlery dating to the late 1800's and early 1900's. Interactive exhibits feature Port Jefferson harbor and the native flora and fauna with information about the environment and conservation. Our mission centers on igniting a passion for discovery and innovation in young minds, providing them with the tools and confidence to navigate challenges through our unique "fail forward" philosophy. This approach underscores the value of resilience and teamwork, essential components in the pursuit of learning and creativity.
