Since 1937, from Fire Island to Long Island, we have long dreamed of continuing our family business. We have created a modern oyster bar with a hip vibe that pays homage to the history of our community by fusing the traditions of the past with the novelty of the future. Salt & Barrel was inspired by our personal love of the Great South Bay and Long Islands' historic traditions of farming the sea. For generations, Long Islanders have made a living on the water dating from the old whaling industry of the 18th century to the discovery of the Blue Point Oyster in the 1900s that famously put the region on the world map. Long Island baymen thrived in the ’70s and ‘80s harvesting clams and scallops and continuing that tradition in the present day with the fishing industry in MTK. S&B is the local epicenter for all “fruits de mer.” We carry a vast array of oysters from all over the country. We work with purveyors, fishermen, and farmers to bring the best quality product possible to your plate. We offer seafood-inspired menus both in our speakeasy bar and our elegant dining room, serving locally sourced provisions wherever possible to maintain consistent freshness. Our chef is a luminary in his field and his passion for awakening the palate with bold, fresh flavors shines through with every bite.
