An official Path Through History Site! Discover the industry that created the City of Syracuse and supplied the nation with salt! The Salt Museum presents an ongoing interpretation of the great Onondaga salt manufacturing industry, which existed from 1788 until 1926. Explore the site of an original boiling block where brine was turned into salt. Located on the scenic shores of Onondaga Lake in the popular Onondaga Lake Park. Open seasonally from early May to early October, 7 days per week. Free admission; nice gift shop operated by the Friends of Historic Onondaga Lake, a not-for-profit organization that provides educational programming at the Salt Museum as well as other venues throughout the Onondaga County area.
