Suffolk County Historical Society Museum

An official Path Through History Site! Founded in 1886, the Suffolk County Historical Society Museum is the oldest historical society in both Suffolk and Nassau Counties and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum offers seven permanent and changing exhibit galleries, a gift and book shop, and a research library. Our collections consist of approximately 20,000 objects that illustrate the history of Suffolk County and Long Island. The majority of the collections are from the 19th century, but also include Native American artifacts and an excellent collection of textiles and costumes, many fine examples of Long Island furniture and silver, as well as fine and decorative arts. Our event schedule includes free opening receptions for new exhibits, monthly Book & Bottle discussions with local authors and artists, an annual Tea & Talk luncheon, Genealogy Workshops, a holiday Wooden Wonderland Show & Sale, and our annual History and Heritage Awards honoring those who have significantly contributed to the preservation and promotion of local history. The Suffolk County Historical Society Museum is proud to be Dan's Papers Best-of-the-Best North Fork Museum Award Winner for 2015! From the Civil War to civil rights, revolutions to restorations, spies to Suffragettes, boat builders to bootleggers, and whalers to wineries, Long Island's history comes alive at the Suffolk County Historical Society.
