Sunken Meadow State Park Golf Course (Governor Alfred E. Smith)

Details

Sunken Meadow State Park features 27 holes of hilly, wooded golf split up into three nines – Red, Green and Blue. All three nines were designed by Alfred Tull, whose extensive work on Long Island also includes the Yellow Course and parts of the Blue Course at Bethpage State Park. The golf courses at Sunken Meadow play up and down the hills of Suffolk County’s north shore. Most holes play through heavily wooded corridors, though there is usually plenty of room to keep shots safe between the tree lines. No matter what combination of courses you play, 18-hole rounds at Sunken Meadow top out just over 6,000 yards in length and are fair for all skill levels. Despite the location adjacent to Long Island Sound, there are no water hazards on the Sunken Meadow courses. Given the dense woods surrounding the courses, there are also no water views during play. However, Sunken Meadow does offer one of the region’s most scenic driving ranges. Players warm up for their rounds and aim their practice shots from elevated stalls overlooking Long Island Sound. Sunken Meadow also offers a pro shop for golf gear.
