The Shoals

Situated dockside on a marina overlooking the Peconic Bay and Shelter Island, The Shoals is the first of its kind in the area; a hybrid “boatel” that features 20 hotel suites and 20 boat slips, making it accessible by both land and sea. Guests can arrive by train, seaplane, or boat - uniquely positioning the hotel as both a destination for guests and a social hub for locals. Inspired by the historic working marina on which the hotel is set, renowned architect Andrew V Gimbertone and acclaimed designer Thomas Juul-Hanson designed The Shoals to pay homage to the property's nautical history by integrating custom marine design elements, and framing rooms to accentuate stunning coastal views. The building’s cedar-shingle exterior and clean lines is reminiscent of New England modernism, with two stories of guest rooms each thoughtfully situated for views of the bay and marina. A place for rest and recreation, each room offers ample private outdoor space and unparalleled access to the bay via the hotel's own vintage Chris-Craft charter boat (which can be used as a shuttle to private beaches & nearby restaurants, or simply to explore the area by water). With an aligned effort to embrace and support the working waterfront, The Shoals has partnered with local favorite and female-owned family business, Little Ram Oyster Company, on a robust oyster program that will be operated out of a renovated waterfront building on the property. Additional public areas include a brick-and-mortar sundry shop and versatile event space with sweeping sunset views.
