An official Path Through History Site! This burial ground in upper Manhattan has been the final resting place for many historic figures since the cemetery opened in 1842 at the Chapel of the Intercession (now The Church of the Intercession), formerly the location of John James Audubon's estate. Important burials include John Jacob Astor III, John Jacob Astor IV, John James Audobon and former NYC Mayor Ed Koch. A non-denominational cemetery, it is the only remaining active cemetery in Manhattan.
